In the late afternoon about 100-125 gulls showed up at the west outflow of
Black Dog Lake. Earlier in the afternoon, about the same number of gulls
were seen roosting on the rooftops off of Highway 13 near the Burnsville
landfill, as they often do. What was different about today is that the

Saturday at about 3PM, there was a first winter Thayer's gull at the western
flowage off Black Dog Road. Saturday and Sunday there was a first winter
Glaucous Gull visible from the boardwalk platform west of the Old Cedar Ave
Bridge at about 1245PM. At about 2 PM the first winter Iceland Gull

taken yesterday of the Franklin's Gull at the west out-take structure at
Black Dog near I-35.
Erika and I also observed what we took to be an Iceland Gull, photos to
follow on the blog in the near future.

Spent some time driving around/getting to know Minneapolis area lakes this
morning/early afternoon. Visited Lakes Calhoun and Harriet, lots of ducks
and very few gulls (nothing other than species previously reported today).
Last stops were at both ends of Black Dog Road. Several hundred ducks on
