Yesterday afternoon while working in my kitchen, a Northern Hawk Owl flew into the Spruce tree that's in my front yard. He was only about 20 feet away and gave me good looks at his yellow eyes and then he turned his head and I saw the dark stripes on the side of the head. He flew away almost immediately.
Also of note, a friend called to tell me that they counted 52 Loons in front of their house on the west end of Lake Vermilion Monday afternoon. On Tuesday there were about 20 Bohemian Waxwings in Cook.
