I found a single Long-tailed Duck (female) on Vadnais Lake in Ramsey County
today. It was seen late morning and continued to be seen throughout the
afternoon until the snow started to come down, making conditions more
difficult for it to be found.

Carol and William Beste found a male Long-tailed Duck among the Common
Goldeneyes on theeast side of Lake Harriet in Minneapolis this morning. At noon
it was in the southwest corner of thelake with Goldeneyes but it took some
patience to see as it seem to spend more time under waterthan above.

from the west end of Point Pleasant Road. I think this is a first county

Spotted a Long-tailed Duck swimming with the Common Goldeneye in Shingobee Bay
on
Leech Lake in Cass County this afternoon. The birds were observed straight out

docks below the Shingobee Sports Bar and Marina.

A Long-tailed Duck was sighted in Wigwam Bay of Mille Lacs Lake this later
afternoon swimming about with the Scaups present too. Along the west side of
the lake at the intersection of CR25/Hwy169 (this is in the Mille Lacs
County...spur south of the Crow Wing countyline). Park in a small pull

It's associating with a large group of ducks, and spends most of its time
underwater.

A long tailed duck is among the goldeneyes at lock and dam #3 in goodhue
county. Must be around 700 goldeneyes and 400 common mergansers. A lone
canvasback is also there.

Long tails still there today at 2:20. Seen where chain link fence stars on
east side as described. Spotted by eye. Verified by binoculars. Beautiful
view fairly close. I watched for ten minutes as they fished then I left. No
legal place to park in that area.

I just finished birding the east side of Medicine Lake in Plymouth from 12:00pm
to about 12:45pm. I found a flock of 6 Long Tailed ducks. They were actively
feeding and moving to the north. I found them in the area where the chain link
fence starts, just north of Medicine Lake Rd. I have birded
Ron Erpelding, Mark Junghans and I just found a female Long-tailed Duck on Lake
Emily in Crow Wing County. The duck was seen from Hwy 6 just north of the boat
access.

Late this afternoon Brad Nelson called to tell me he found a Long-tailed
Duck on Lake Ripley in Litchfield. It was about 150 feet off the eastern
shore, straight out from the boat launch. This is just south of the city
park.

I saw a Long-tailed Duck today, Saturday, around the noon hour a couple hundred
yards north of the Coon Rapids Dam. It was associating with a large flock of
Common Goldeneyes. I saw it from the east side of the river where there is a
large open space in the grove of trees that line the river.
At about 4:15PM Friday, I spotted a female-type Long-tailed Duck at Minneiska
along the Mississippi River near the Winona County line. Most of the river has

but it has moved upstream.
Park on Mississippi Blvd and Uplander Street. Follow the paved trail south into
the park. There is a dirt path on the right that goes across a ravine (it has
cement blocks and rocks in it.)

about 400-500 yards north of the southwest corner of the lake and easily

Henry in Le Sueur County about 3:30 this afternoon. The bird was seen
from the public boat ramp on the Co. Rd. 18 at the south end of the

After searching for the LT Duck on Lake Vadnais, I was rewarded with wonderful
looks at the bird on Sucker Lake. He was visible from the north parking lot by
the picnic area. He associated with Hooded Mergansers and Common Goldeneyes.
