I did some birding in beautiful Maplewood State Park on Tuesday, 5/19. Highlights were: a spectacular Western Kingbird hawking insects in the company of Eastern Kingbirds near the observation blind on the south side of Beaver Lake and a displaying American Woodcock in the field across the road from the Baker Cabin (starting at about 9:30 pm). Fair numbers of warblers in the woods. Was not able to get into much of the grasslands due to prescribed burns in progress.
