Despite the recent deluge here, the avian gods blessed the Lac Qui Parle Weekend with good weather. Friday was incredibly beautiful, and Saturday, though somewhat cooler, cloudier, and noticeably windy, was quite manageable. The thunderstorms Saturday night abated by morning and brought in some of the expected birds we'd been seeking--plus a few more "specials" that people were privileged to find or re-find. It's exciting to have things like White-faced Ibis, Snowy Egret, Cattle Egret, Cinnamon Teal, Eurasian Wigeon and Say's Phoebe show up. But even adding FOYs to a MN year list --22 of them in my case--is great fun. (I think a complete composite list of participants' sightings will be posted elsewhere to give an idea of the possibilities.) This is also an opportunity to become acquainted with hidden gems of habitat you can explore on your own, which many of us also did. . Best of all is the chance to learn from other birders, and to enjoy the company and hospitality of a generous group of people. Special thanks are due to the guides, the local residents who prepared and served the 3 Saturday meals and particularly, Ken Larsen and Mary Lou Frank, who hosted so many of us at Prairie Marsh Farm. Thank you for everything you do to make this an unforgettable experience. Linda Whyte
