I observed a Surf Scoter on Bde Maka Ska ( Calhoun) in Minneapolis, Hennepin
County. I
scoped it from Thomas Beach, and it was diving frequently. A scope would be
necessary as it
was in the middle of the lake by itself.

A single SURF SCOTER was seen this evening while scanning Lake Waconia in
Carver County. It was seen from the Dakota Rail Trail which runs along the
north side of the lake.
If anyone is going here to look for this, park on North Shore road just west of

there was a surf scoter off the landing at the Quarterdeck on Gull Lake
yesterday afternoon. Also 2 long tailed ducks off of the Shingobee landing
bar and Grill on Leech Lake... Pine Grosbeaks and redpoles showing up as well

This afternoon there was a Surf Scoter on Lake Harriet in Minneapolis. I
also enjoyed a Iceland Gull (Thayers) a light creamy tan first-cycle my

I saw a Surf Scoter on Centerville Lake today between noon and 1:00. It was at
the northeast end of the lake near Main Street. It was with a small flock of
Ruddy Ducks.

A correction on the Scoters in the Grand Marais area. One was a Surf Scoter
instead of a White-winged Scoter.

I had distant scope views with heat distortion but am pretty sure these are the
birds based
on what sketchy details I saw. Maybe someone wants to investigate
Earlier this afternoon, I found a surf scoter on the south end of Lake
Lillian. The bird was just east of where cty 8 goes south. Overall
numbers of waterfowl have dropped sharply in the last 10 days and the
big last push (which includes swans) has not happened yet...at least
here.

There is a Surf Scoter on Bald Eagle Lake. Best spot for viewing is a small
lakeside park at Bald Eagle Lake Blvd. and St. Anthony Ave. The bird is

Currently looking at a female/immature Surf Scoter on Lake
Independence in western Hennepin Co. Bird is on east side of lake and
most easily seen from boat launch area of Baker Park Reserve (scope
needed to see well).

This morning I observed a Surf Scoter on Lake Harriet in Minneapolis, Hennepin
County. The raw winds and the rain/sleet/snow mix as the temperatures dropped
would make it difficult to clearly see the SUSC without a scope as it stayed in
the middle of the lake.

Today we were pulling docks and boats at the cabin and were treated to a
