After spending a part of this cold, windy day birding with Craig Mandel's group on a very enjoyable Goodhue Cty field trip, I stopped to check for Red -headed Woodpeckers on Wild Turkey Road at about 5:30 pm. I didn't find any RHWO's, but I immediately saw, perched in a tree along Sunset Trail, close to the Wild Turkey Road turnoff, two Swainson's Hawks.
Jim Otto originally found a Swainson's Hawk in this area on June 2, 2010, which was seen by at least three other birders and myself in 2010 through July. A sighting of 2 Swainson's Hawk in Goodhue Cty was also made in July , and I saw a Swainson's near Cannon Falls, in Goodhue Cty, in September, 2010.
