Although I'm sure others are experiencing phenomenal warbler activity in
southern Minnesota right now, this morning easily ranks among the best
warbler fallouts I've ever experienced in the state. Liz Harper and I found
23 species at Locke Park in southern Anoka County, but perhaps more
impressive were the abundances of each with double digits of Magnolia,
Bay-breasted, Blackburnian, Chestnut-sided, Blackpoll, Black-throated
Green, and Canada (and well over 100 Tennessee). The storms that rolled
through the cities in the early morning hours two nights ago appear to have
grounded an abundance of warblers in the metro area, and given the forecast
for the weekend and early next week (cooler temps and north winds) it seems
likely they'll stay put for a few days.
