Yesterday (3/18) at dusk, two Am. Woodcock were "peenting" and doing mating
flight displays in the Black Dog Unit of MN Valley National Wildlife Refuge
(MVNWR). From Minneapolis or Bloomington, drive S on 35W, cross the Minnesota
River to exit 4A, drive 0.5 mile east on Cliff Road, turn left

Very surprised to find a dead woodcock in our alley this morning in south
Minneapolis (a few blocks south of Lake St. and several blocks west of the
River).
Looks like it was done in by a motor vehicle.

My sister reported to me that they had a woodcock flush from their backyard in
Plymouth near Lost Lake by 169 and Rockford Road yesterday. It flew out of
their yard to somewhere else in the neighborhood.

On Monday evening, 3/20/17, from 7:30 pm to 8:15 pm, I heard at least 7 calling
male American Woodcock in Elm Creek Park Reserve 1.5 – 2 miles south of Eastman
Nature Center’s access road. I had used this site to see timberdoodles from
1985 to 2005, it was good to see the birds are still
This morning my dog scared up a woodcock on Normanna road. At 17 degrees,

Last night (3/12) Miriam and I heard four or five woodcock
'peenting' and sky dancing at the Black Dog Fen. However,
they were moving around a lot as if they had not yet established
territory. We had to walk beyond the two towers

A first for me, a wookcock was rustling in the leaves in my yard which is along
the river gorge in Mpls., my last woodcock sightings were north of Grand Marais.

My wife and I went down to Black Dog Preserve, in Dakota County, this
evening to look for woodcocks. We were not disappointed, with birds
calling and displaying all around us. We heard some 10-15 woodcocks and
saw a similar number. One called 20 feet from us and displayed
