I spent a delightful morning yesterday (11/21) up near the Highway 2 and
Highway 15/16 intersection North of Two Harbors.

Highlights included three hawk owls, and three separate sightings of individual
spruce grouse.

The grouse were seen on the South and North ends of the Stony River Forest
Road, and also 1 mile South of Hwy 1 on Hwy 2.

The hawk owls were seen at:
Highway 2 just North of Kane Lake Road (about 6 miles South of highway
15/16/11)
Highway 11, 4.3 miles East of Stony River Forest Road
On the Stony River Forest Road 2.8 miles from its Northern end

The forest road is in very good shape with only a few potholes.

In the afternoon, I birded the Sax/Zim bog briefly. No hawk owls today, but
there were a few rough-legged hawks and gray jays to finish of a nice day of
birding.
