There were 4 or 5 RLHA's circling over 35 E northbound just S of the I-94
interchange. Beautiful to see in the sun against the blue sky. It was about
12 noon and they were moving westward it appeared. At hwy speeds, they all
looked like light morph, but not certain if immature or adult
I was out and about at some of our preserves today. I saw no fewer then 50
Rough Legs. Basically any patch of habitat had them perched or hunting.
This seems to be quite the fall for this species. In my 13 years in the
area I don't recall seeing so many in one day.

Took the Prairie's Edge Wildlife Drive at Sherburne NWR yesterday afternoon. 31
species including:
7 Rough-legged Hawks--all perched in trees along the middle one third of the
drive.
1 Osprey
1 Northern Shrike
Groups of both Red-breasted and Hooded Mergansers (pool in front of Eagle nest)
Jim Peterson and I took a drive from Rochester through Whitewater to
Kellogg late afternoon. Most notable was 7 Rough-legged Hawks, 5 of which
were dark phase. Two have been seen together for several days east of Roch.
One wonders if they would be paired?

The Rough-Legged Hawks are already back! Seems rather early to me but there
they were, hovering over the field next to the building I work at. They were
here all last fall/winter. If they continue to show up in the field I will
send directions.

I went out today looking for the hawk, and found it right away. I was only
out there about 15 minutes, because I didn't want to make it fly too much.
I did manage to get a few shots, including one where it flew closer to me
and landed on top of a spruce tree. I did see a second hawk fly by, but
From my desk at work I get a great view of a large field in New Brighton that
is very popular with the raptors. A few minutes ago something caught my eye,
a Rough-Legged Hawk chasing a Red-Tailed Hawk very low over the field. They
ended up perching in different areas resumed hunting. I've
I was up at Crex Meadows yesterday and spotted at least 10 different
rough-legs.
Both color variations were hovering in view of the road through out most of the
day. I did post some pictures on the blog if you are interested.

Laura Coble and I found rough-legged hawks in 3 different locations in
the vicinity of Northfield today. One cooperative bird perched for at
least 20 minutes near the roadside on Hwy. 19, just east of the
driveway entry to the boy scout camp, before lifting up and flying
east. The second one was
