The Brown Pelican WAS present yesterday morning, July 2, when we arrived about
9:15-9:30, exactly as advertised on its rock and seen easily from the Jason
Adams Court spot. I had 5 printed emails with me describing precisely how to

Searched the area along the MN River south of Renville (so perfectly described
by Ron E. and Brian S. yesterday) for 1 1/2 hours this evening, but no sign of
the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher.
Closest I came was an E. Phoebe, along w/ several beautiful E. Bluebirds and a
couple singing E. Meadowlark
Take US Hwy. 212 (connects Chaska--Norwood YA--Glencoe--Brownton out to Bird
Island--Olivia and beyond).
About a half-mile east of Brownton, turn south on McLeod Cty. Hwy. 13, and go
2.8 miles.
There is a slough/pond/marsh on both sides of the Hwy.
The Moorhen was in the east pond, in the reeds on
another Black-throated Blue was found late this afternoon (Sat. 9/25) again at
Robert's Bird Sanctuary in Minneapolis, amid some fairly active warbler
movement (about a third of the way into the sanctuary from the east end parking
lot) made up mostly of Tennessee warblers and many Golden-crowned
A SUMMER TANAGER (female) and a MOCKINGBIRD were found on Friday, Oct. 8, by
Berniece and Earl Hall in the backyard of their home in Hutchinson.
The Summer Tanager has been a regular visitor since then to the peanut suet
feeder, and was seen again this morning (Sunday) around 9:30.

I did not see the Nicollet Cty. Swan Lake CR 4 north boat access Glossy Ibis
today when I arrived about 11:30 am,
but at 12:30 on the South side of Swan Lake at the Nicollet Bay public boat
access (471st Ln?),
there were 6 Ibis feeding around an island in the channel about 100 yards
looking nort
Bernice and Earl Hall got a call from a friend in rural McLeod Cty. to report
an unusual large blackbird making strange clicking and clacking and clucking
noises.
We identified it as a Great-tailed Grackle. The calls and sound effects were
diagnostic,
and it was much bigger than the Common Grack
The GTGRackle southwest of Hutchinson is still present and whistling and
clacking away.
Go south of Hutch about 3 miles to CR 18.
Turn west and drive 5.3 miles to the blue fire # 24495.
(This is the only home on the south side of Hwy. 18 for a mile or so).

Several birders saw the Hutchinson lazuli bunting today, even if only very
sporadically and fleetingly, throughout Sunday, May 19th.
The best viewing times were between 7:30 and 10:00 am, and about 5:45-7:00 pm.

Today at 11:00 am (12/31/13) a Snowy Owl (imm.) on Renville CR 20 just north of
the intersection
with Renville CR 38, on a pole in front of farmstead # 84260.
It flew east from the pole to the top of a ridge about 300 yds. SE of the farm
houses.

There are still 6 Cattle Egrets in McLeod Cty. south of Hutchinson as of midday
today, June 30th,
enjoying their time around a small heard of cattle
very close to the road as previously reported by Bob Williams, Herb Dingmann,
and others. Great photo opps.

At least 2-3 CAEG still seem to be hanging around the cows on farm #12174 on
McLeod CR 58, although last evening @ 5:30 (July 3)
they were hard to see behind the farmhouse and barn where the cows were penned
up for the evening.
Earlier in the week they had been right along the road when the cows
