Hi all,

Out this week with Steve and John from Florida.

Today we were in Lake County for the morning.

4 Spruce Grouse (2 male, 2 female)— on Hwy 1 at milepost 301.3 at 7:30am. All
on the road until passing cars spooked them into the trees. They hung around
near the road in the trees for a while...Male half displaying for a female.

4 Black-backed Woodpeckers (2 male, 2 female)—in a burn along Hwy 1 just east
of Ely. Pull off highway at the easternmost Cordwood Ln. (there is another
entrance to Cordwood Ln closer to Ely). Courtship displays, drumming and
chasing Hairy Woodpeckers away. Also Downy Woodpeckers here. [Thanks to the Ely
Field Naturalists for this location!]

Private property along this road so don't trespass. And note that this is a
busy road at times!
