About 1pm today, Connie Jo and I, together with Jerry and Carol Dirks all saw
the Ruff briefly after Carol found it with the scope. We had walked
southeasterly toward the shoreline of the west end of the narrows of Long
Meadow Lake using a dirt path leading from the main Bass Ponds trail. The
Hoping to find the Ruff tomorrow (Tuesday).
Any updates would be great.

The Ruff was last seen early this morning (~7:30am) at Long Meadow
Lake/Bass Ponds (part of the Minnesota River Valley NWR) in Bloomington.

The previously reported Ruff was seen at 4:30 pm today (5-9-15) on the far
east end of Long Meadow Lake. This spot can be scoped by walking east on
the trail at Bass Ponds as far as it goes before beginning to circle back.
At this point a faint path takes you past a culvert and toward the
cattails.

The Ruff was being seen distantly at LML at 4:00 PM. The bird was at the Far
East end of
the Lake.

Several are looking at the Ruff right now(4:20pm).
We are viewing it from standing in the cattails looking to the southeast.
Scope is mandatory. Ground is soft and muddy. Boots are helpful.
It stands out by its larger size, bright rufous head and black chest.

The Ruff is now being easily seen at a different location. It is in the area
where it was originally seen on Saturday.
Come down the hill, go straight to the tee and turn left. There is a beaten
path to your right before you reach the wooden bridge. Take that out to the
edge of Long Meadow La
The ruff was easily visible from the Hogback Outlet looking straight across
just a little while ago.

The Ruff at the MNRVWR Bass Ponds area was spotted by Olaf Danielson late
morning on Tuesday, seen also by Curt Rawn and myself. From the vantage

The Ruff originally found by Steve Carlson at the Bass Ponds was still there at
5:00 pm, late Monday afternoon. While searching for this Ruff there were also
thousands of other shorebirds, mostly Lesser Yellowlegs, to shift through. I

the point. Best light right now is at the outlet. It is making short flights
around the lake.
Rufous wash across head and neck, black-speckled belly, black and brown pattern
on back. Distinct dark stripe down middle of

John Hockema, Herb Dingmann and I relocated the Ruff around 6pm from a
different vantage point at the NE corner of the Bass Ponds looking NE at about
a 45 degree angle. It is more muddy than the original spot and may be very
difficult after tonight's rain.

Olmsted County. It's on the north side of Silver Creek Reservoir, which is on

Denny Martin just phoned and asked me post that a Peregrine chased the
shorebirds off the Annandale sewage ponds and the previously reported female
Ruff had not subsequently been refound. He said that a number of the shorebirds
have returned, however.

I am almost certain that I refound the Ruff this morning on the far
west end of Lake Byllesby (pretty much at the end of what you would
consider the lake) The wind was out of this world crazy and the birds
were very spooky (more on that later) but I had a couple good looks

Found a female alternate Ruff at west end of Lake Byllesby. It was first seen
on the Goodhue side of the mudflats, but eventually flew north into Dakota. The
bird was 2.5 times the size of Dunlin and showed bright pale orange legs,
