Hi all,
There are some test files encoded using the linux xing encoder currently
up on my web page (www.cryogen.com/mikecheng). (you'll have to shift click to
download as the server is dumb)
These files all play well on mpg123 59q. They do some interesting
things to the progress

It isn't supported by default, but it is trivial to make mp3make
support it. (I just have a link named 8hz-mp3 that points to lame,
and that's all I needed to do.) I'm not sure about the GTK version of
mp3make however, as I've not used it. So it isn't so much that it
"supports" lame, as that it

That's perhaps an explanation about why Fraunhofer's products are limited to
256k.
It would be interesting to ask this question to some members of the old
mpeg-1 comitee.
