I think I have to correct 2 errors on the list. 1. Dr. Bill Green, who
just left the School Board, is not a teacher in the MPS. He is a Professor
at Augsburg College. 2. He was not asleep at any board meeting I attended,
he just looks that way from the camera angle. I sat next to him for 1 yea

Whoops! Youv'e got me there Mr. Atherton! I am not a statistician, just a

their middle school curriculum in the Minneapolis Public Schools, so I

I finally got to read all the posts on this. I was writing an article for
community papers and I will share that here. At running the risk of
stating the obvious, there is no replacement for human interaction. The
district has no plans or wishes to replace teachers with computers as was

I wanted to respond to this a while back, last week was tremendously busy
and my kids were on the computor almost all evenings doing school work and
projects. I do have the information Mr. Atherton requested about the study
that quoted the numbers on student achievement and the most important

Mr. Atherton is right, current research shows that student acheivement can
be accurrately measured as follows: 49% attributed to parent involvement,
about 42% teacher quality, and about 8% to class size. A top priority of
the district is currently to provide staff development in a way that is

Minneapolis did vote on levies to keep class sizes small, and the sizes
promised at the elementary level are being held to that level. At the
secondary levels, there are over enrolled classes. So what's happening?

Whoops! I had written a response and talked to Catherine Shreves. I sent
her my response we made a few revisions, and then she posted it. I went
back on line rather late and didn't realize she had sent in my post to the

Just wanted to weigh in the comments about events and circumstances

The entire Board has repeatedely asked her to stay for a number of well

I know that the Minneapolis delegation is not happy over the impasse at the
legislature, but Sen. Pogomiller is standing tough on isssues. Truth of
the matter is that the power base has moved to the outer ring suburbs and
contacting our legislators won't change much at this point.

One list member stated that you only get one chance. Not quite true, we

I have some involvement with the schools, so I thought I too would weigh

The 3 school board seats that are up for election will actually be three

elections in line with other elections to have a greater voter turn-out and

I wanted to weigh in on this subject as a parent and BOE member. There

I think the difference here in the amounts of projected shortfalls is that
the district projected, based on the last several years, that the district
