Bravo to RT for standing tall and further exposing the misguided attempt by those who missed the clear message of last election. The DFL and Labor leadership that is trying to "censure" Democrats for supporting supporting Ostrow/Goodman's leadership because they dared to put a non-DFL on a committee chair is the type of politics that was so roundly rejected in the last election.
Three cheers to RT, Paul Ostrow and Lisa Goodman for faithfully implementing the spirit of the election and putting together a leadership team for the council which represents the diverse interests of the city. For those of us that worked so hard for reform over the last year and a half -- let's go one step further: The DFL/Labor leadership that is behind the Central Committee meeting is leading a coordinated campaign in the final weeks of the outgoing council to use behind-the-scenes politics to ensure that two of their loyal followers Johnson and Biernet, can ignore the November renunciation of their policies and end up in the power of the new council. Biernet and Johnson were solid votes for the old majority. Will they be able to behind the scenes put together a deal and keep the old leadership in power? Can they ignore our November voice? Breaking with tradition, Ostrow/Goodman put their proposal on the table. Wrote it on a piece of paper, and circulated it for everyone to see. It wasn't a cynical effort to gain power by telling cutting a secret deal over a handshake - it was a process which built public accountability. The public in the process is us. We can see, and ask, and inquire - who is part of the positive change? Who wants to keep playing the old games?
