Minneapolis police to add policy in lawsuit settlement David Chanen Star Tribune Published Jan. 22, 2003 As part of a lawsuit settlement, Minneapolis officials will announce today that police officers will be required to take training on a state law that makes it illegal for a store or restaurant to refuse service on the basis of a person's race.
The action stems from a 1999 suit alleging that officers didn't adequately investigate the complaint of two black women who said they weren't allowed to buy a lottery ticket at a Tom Thumb convenience store and were subjected to racial epithets. The officers didn't take a report on the incident and later said in a deposition that they weren't aware of the state law, said the women's attorney, Jill Clark. http://www.startribune.com/stories/462/3606100.html Shawn Lewis, Field Neighborhood -- _______________________________________________ Sign-up for your own FREE Personalized E-mail at Mail.com http://www.mail.com/?sr=signup Meet Singles http://corp.mail.com/lavalife _______________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - A City-focused Civic Discussion - Mn E-Democracy Post messages to: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
