I never fear SQL CUs. Those SQL folks are the most brilliant of all Microsoft
engineers. No reboots needed either. I just put CU3 for SQL 2014 on 2 sites
today with no issues. The SQL guys are so good that they should just take over
the OS too. :)

Doesn't offline servicing miss all patches that need a reboot? So that you end
up just having to install them again anyway? I always use build and capture.

I wonder where I could go to glean more tips like this...

You know I do go into it like once a year. Options\Server Cleanup Wizard,
uncheck computers and let it run to catch barnacle that has slipped through the
cracks. Outside of the console and in SQL, we setup a reindex job from Ola

You could run select * from ServerData on SQL and see what sites still show.
And you could delete a row if it's showing the primary. But when things get
that messy, I'd recommend a reimage if you can do it.

CreateReply failed with error (80040e14).
Uninstalling the patch from our Server 2008 R2 MPs and rebooting them
cleared the issue up.
We also found it to kill the ability to generate a snapshot on the primary
sites and removed it from them as well.

Well size differs, but for us we did 1 and 8. That was old R2. We
haven't touched the 2012 boxes and won't until we see IIS crack.
