I upgraded a bunch of servers to 2012 R2 last week and tried to manually get
that update and it kept getting stuck downloading. Only after mentioning that
to a teammate who said

I see it, but I keep failing on the download. Gets to 36% and fails. I guess
I just have to keep trying.

When I approved it to 2 test boxes it installed fine but they show a status of
downloaded and not installed. Any ideas on that?

Yes, with the release of KB 2959977, which is automatically installed when you
approve KB 2919355 via WSUS, Intune, ConfigMgr, WU, etc.
