I would go to opposite direction actually. I'd like more granual work types to be added. In the case of Opera, I'd be in favor of everything from Operetta, Opera Buffa, Opera seria,Grand Opera, Singspiel, etc..., Perhaps Japanese performed art types could be added someday too such as Kabuki, Bunra

Had no time to spot that RFC/RFV it seems. And Vietnamese cải lương, etc. ? It doesn’t seem excellent to have one type per country imo. IMO “SONG” (as opposed to “INSTRUMENTAL”) is even enough… We are archiving songs, do we really care if people dance, jump, act, etc. at the same time as singing

Our CompMusic friends are working on adding Chinese opera (which is "opera" in the Western sense pretty much in name only) to MusicBrainz, and have asked if we can add this specific work type ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peking_opera). It's certainly used often enough, see http://musicbrainz.org
