Mutt doesn't prompt me to accept/reject SSL certificate

When connecting with IMAPS (port 993) using openssl I don't get a prompt asking to accept/reject the SSL certificate. I have my certificate_file setting set: set certificate_file="~/.mutt/cert" My cert file doesn't exist. I've tried compiling 1.5.20 and 1.4.2.3 with the same result. I must hav
