IMAP: Limit number of fetched messages

Is it possible to limit the number of messages fetched from an IMAP folder? I need this when reading from Gmail IMAP since I keep all messages there forever and there are now too many for it to be comfortable to read with mutt. So if I could just fetch the last 100 or so it would be well. Sincer
