Fair point Richard - other hotkey shortcuts apply "globally" e.g.
contexts . I think this is an oversight.
In the meantime, there is always AutoHotkey!

I use hotkeys a lot to assign flags, etc and quite often my sequence
is when entering a new task:
* hit Alt+D and enter date/day that I want to do the task
* hit Alt+Shift+K to set my 'Key task' flag - nothing happens

On #2: Have you discovered Insert Link to a File? Right-click in Task
Notes, or Ctrl+Alt+F. This doesn't turn ordinary text into a link (as in
HTML), but putting the link next to your text should work just as well.
