John Smith asked

*What do I do about stuff that I want to disappear from view (e.g. because
they are on my GTD 'Waiting' or GTD 'Someday-Maybe' list?*
*Do I need to add advanced filters for every single view that says:*
* Context does not contain @Waiting AND*
* Context does not contain @Someday-Maybe*

First, think about whether you want tasks from each context to be
permanently, always hidden or whether there is some event or condition that
releases them. "Someday" is an example of a context where tasks just don't
become active, you want this context permanently hidden. I believe that
there are a few ways to do this, the one I like best is to mark the context
always closed.
- hit F8 to bring up the Manage Context display
- select the context that you want to hide
- select the Hours tab in the panel on the right
- click the Always Closed button
- click "close" in the lower right

My <Waiting context is for future tasks - I ordered some equipment that
should arrive by Wednesday. On Thursday MLO will remind me and if it's not
here I will follow up. In this case, I dont want to hide everything under
<waiting, just the ones that are not yet due. So I set a start date for
each task and those with future start dates hide themselves.

Some tasks have a context tied to a location and remain inactive until my
phone detects that I'm at the location

I have about a dozen issues waiting for a decision from Paul. I have a task
for each, and each task is dependent on a task called "see Paul". - Seeing
Paul is on my task list but the unresolved issues are not. Before I go to
see Paul I complete the "see Paul" task and all my issues appear in the to
do list. BTW if I leave Paul with issues still unresolved I just uncomplete
the "see paul" task and the issues re-hide.

But for any context where you would even consider coding an exclusion into
every view, I would recommend making it a closed context.
