SHOW SLAVE STATUS hangs while LOAD DATA FROM MASTER runs (4.0.23)

Hi!  I never saw a follow-up to the post about SHOW SLAVE STATUS 
hanging while LOAD DATA FROM MASTER is running as of about 4.0.20 on.

Is this a known bug?  Or a feature?
