You forgot to use -- before the option version. Try this instead
mysqladmin --version
Let us know your results.
Oh yes, it works. When I typed the right command: mysqladmin --version
I got the following result: mysqladmin Ver 8.42 Distrib 5.1.50, for Win32 on
