Setting variables in XP

I would like to put "SET AUTOCOMMIT=0" in my.ini. When I put it under "[mysqld]", mysql will not start as a service. When I put it under "[WinMySQLadmin]", the service starts but does not appear to have any effect. Any suggestions? Kindly,

t;. Do you know how I can change this variable. To let you know, I did have an earlier version of mysql on this system. I have uninstalled it and installed the new version. Any assistance you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
