Has there been any thought about using mysql for SAP R/3 systems?
The reason I ask the question is because we work in SAP and we use mysql
as the db for our office applications. So we know them both quite well and it
would be nice if we could use the combined knowledge for our clients.

I have no idea what it takes to become a SAP supported db for R/3 and don't even know 
if mysql if capable of being a db for R/3 (don't this wrongly, it is just question!),
but in case steps have been undertaken to move in this direction, please let us know.

I can surely think of some reasons to use mysql: it is freaking fast as hell, stable 
and low cost of
getting (=free) and maintaining. This is in particular interesting for medium sized 
companies where budgets are
often tight.
