I am fairly much a beginner and have probably done something
wrong but version 4.0.12 will not let me in.

I have been using MySQL (via MySQL Front and PHPMyAdmin as
interfaces usually) on a
Windows ME PC with Apache, all just for learning databases, SQL
and PHP. I learn slowly since I have to do a lot of other things
but it has gone reasonable well.

As part exercise and part for use I have been building a small
database. I did nothing on it for a couple of months for various
reasons.

Today I accessed the database in MySQL, typing in a password
which I set up. The version running is - max. I tried to add
some data from a prepared text file (which I have done several
times before) and got the response that "this version of MySQL
does not recognise this command" (ie import text file data.).
Which was odd. Same response in both interfaces.

It has previously worked nicely in either of MySQLFront or
PHPMyAdmin.(4.3) so I assumed maybe the MySQL had becomedamaged -
so I uninstalled it and reloaded it (leaving the data files
untouched).

Now I cannot get in at all and it simply tells me that "error
1045 - access denied for user root 127.0.01" which leaves me
stumped.

Meanwhile WinMySQLAdmin sits in the tray at the bottom and after
this error message seems to shut down.

[Other possibly pertinent information, or not, is that since I
last used MySQL I have loaded various other bits of software such
as Open Office, Mozilla and more, in case some conflict is the
reason.]

So - please excuse what is probably a rather basic question but
can anyone suggest what I should explore to get this going again?
Or point me at an archive thread that deals with it?

Regards
Adrian G
