Please, check that you can see hebrew data in your
terminal (you have appropriative fonts installed).
Send to the list a CREATE statement for you table and
output of the following statement:
show variables like '%char%';

I'm using mysql-standard-4.1.14 and mysql-client-4.1.14 on a RH9 machine,
