Chris + All,
Thanks for your postings. God knows why but I still cannot login to MySQL, I could not
kill and start MySQL in safe mode as suggested. (I come from a Windoz background. I am
a total newbies Unix/command line stuff) but I found instructions on how to uninstall
MySQL which I did successfully.
I then reboot my server, install MySQL afresh (I was hoping this password on the new
installation will be default cobalt password) but still could not login, I began to
wonder if I did not actually lose the password in the first place.
This is the syntax of the command I used and this is the message I keep getting:
mysqladmin -uroot -pcobalt-mysql password mynewpassword (the default password for
MySQL root on cobalt is cobalt-mysql)
MySQL replied me with: mysqladmin: connect to server at "localhost" failed
error 'access denied for user: 'root@localhost'(using password:YES)
I also tried connecting to MySQL without using mysqladminadmin utility and I got a
message access denied message with error code: 1045 I read various man pages and
followed the instruction but no success. I was logged into my server as a super user
at all time.
Any help as to what I am doing wrong and a dummy-proof instruction as to how to
overcome it is highly appreciated. Also contact details of an affordable MySQL expert
is welcomed.
Thanks in advance and save me from having to return to Windoz softwares :)
