Although I wouldn't suggest doing this, it seems to work fine for me. I
suggest in moving the directory, do not make ANY changes to the permissions -
any. Just do this as root:
(Assuming you have redhat'ish directory structure)
cd /var/lib/mysql
mv dbname /home/user/database
ln -s /home/user/d
