RAND() isn't :)

occasionally do the results differ between each query, usually returning the same two rows. The data in the two tables isn't identical, but both tables DO contain the same number of rows, with the same IDs. Where should I be looking for reasons why the RAND() isn't very random??? TIA Justin sql
