depending on your distro. You should have a dir named /etc/rc.d/init.d or
/etc/init.d in it should be a script named mysql for starting and stopping
mysql. Use it (as root) to start mysql.
/etc/init.d/mysql start
or
/etc/rc.d/init.d/mysql start
