I also have the same problem, but in my case the table size exceeds 2Gb,
average record size being around 50Kb.
I'm running 3.23.37 (i686) on a dual PIII 866/ 1Gb RAM / 36Mb SCSI RAID5 w/
RedHat 7.1 (kernel 2.4).
