Hey all.

OK. I'm done. It's taken about 2 months to rewrite our VB app using MySQL
as the back-end, rewriting much code from DAO to ADO usng MyODBC and of
course, debugging. We've switched from MS Access 97 DB's (No more DB
Corruption, Compacting and Repairing!!!!).

One of the reasons that I decided to go with MySQL was the speed. With so
many people using it to power websites with such high volume, I thought for
what we wanted to use it for, we'd have no problem.

Our app is a Hospitality POS with an average of 3-4 workstations hitting the
database with UPDATES, INSERTS and SELECTS and in some cases, pretty hard
(Like a major Comedy Club we installed that does 90% of the sales for day in
about a 3 hour period).

For these small LAN applications, we've been using a PIII 600 (or better)
PC, with 128 MB RAM, 7200 RPM HD's, running Win2K Professional for the File
Server with MS Access DB back-end.

I would appreciate it very much if I could get some suggestions on hardware
(is the above sufficient for a small LAN using MySQL?) and the parameters I
should consider for the MySQL Daemon running on the Win2K Box. We're
installing the NT Service.

ADV(Thanks)ANCE,

Lee Jenkins
