we do have multiple old (celeron, IDE disk) LAMP systems which we would
like to put together into fewer virtual web- and mysql-servers. The
newer servers we have in spare have multi(core) cpu(s), lot of ram,
slow local sata harddisks.
So I was thinking to set up one host with the

have their own sql server to administer with whatever databases they want to create,
with out interferring or even seeing other peoples databases. Does anyone know how to
do this? could you help me?

I always grant all on a particular database to the user who's purchased
the service. I reserve the right to add and delete users, but you could
set up a web page for users to add and remove users for their own
database. making it idiot proof and not exploitable by the script kiddies
would be

* MySQL must be installed in my user directory
/usr/local/WWW/www.mydomain.com/mysql
* I am only allowed to use the TCP/IP ports on the virutal host
www.mydomain.com, not on the actual host.
* I have no root access and cannot edit the startup

have to install MySQL to be used with a website on a virtual server. This
gives the following restraints:

I am having problem installing mysql into virtual host server.
How do I select where Mysql should be installed to? how do i set which path i
want the mysql.sock to be installed?
