I (re)installed RH8.0 and found that the command lists that I posted could not exist if this was to be the initial install of apache-php-mysql. The directories and folders are created in an order different from the one I implied in my email. I apologize for that. I will repost the results of my current attempt to install apache-php-mysql - good luck to me.
