updater, which means I'm using gcc 3.3. Following the directions in
INSTALL-SOURCE, I ran configure with:
CC=gcc \
CFLAGS=-O3 -fno-omit-frame-pointer \
CXX=gcc \
CXXFLAGS=-O3 -fno-omit-frame-pointer -felide-constructors
