Does mysqlcheck sometimes repair problems that it does not report? I've
seen a few instances where running mysqlcheck -r -f fixed application
problems even though it reported all tables "OK."

I get an error when trying to reset password.
I start the db using:
mysqld_safe --skip-grant-tables &
and reset the pwd using the mysqladmin command...
below is the error message.
mysqladmin: unable to change password; error: 'Can't find any matching row in the user
table'
