We're getting a weird error message on 4.0 alpha:
Database error in vBulletin: Link-ID == false, connect failed
mysql error: Can't connect to MySQL server on '' (11)
mysql error number: 2003

I used myisamchk -o first
and myisamchk -r next - it repaired indexes as well
but the result was the same :0(

You are logged in as root, but what user is mysqld running as?
If you stop the database, you can manually remove the test dir from the
datadir.
Or fix the permissions on your directories in the datadir, so that mysqld
can add/remove directories and files.

mysql> drop database test;
I get an error message of
