Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:
1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell
@Alec, could you provide some details on how buggy it is/the
Debian|upstream fix, which would help to at least fix that issue in
bionic...

What's the issue exactly? That the package doesn't show a text interface
to configure things anymore? That seems the same than bug #1788235 which
has been closed as not being a bug
@Alec, the issue you are referring to is different right?

Indeed that problem has also been reported to Debian
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=860296
The maintainer there is not really helpful acknowledging it's an issue
though and argue the users who don't have the hardware should
disable/remove lirc. The component is not installed in
@»ekon, @Alec, thanks for your comments, reading those it looks like you
are stating that there is no real bug, just that the changes in the
software and its configuration files confused users that were used to
the old way? E.g nothing that needs to be resolved? Or is there some
action needed?

Trying to understand the bug here, the title is not very describtive,
how is it broken? reading the comments the issue seems to be rather
"lirc can't be easily configured" is that correct? (you miss a "dpkg-
reconfigure lirc" UI that allow easy configuration)?

why doesn't that work?

* Cherry-pick from upstream:
- lightdm-set-defaults enables tweaking
Why does lightdm allows ubuntu only to be used? the xubuntu settings
binary could install config with another session?

Please let vendors
Lionel, derivates are supported and we want to make their job as easy as
we can, the current version should support what is needed to build any
derivate, the remaining issue is what happens if you try to install
several desktops at the same time including their custom default
configuration
