I do know that XvMC does make it worse, and compiling without OpenGL
seemed to make it a little better, but since I cannot get OpenGL vsync
to actually work, I have no idea if this would help or not. First

working however I cannot get LIRC to work as a second instance to change
channels
on my Cable box via a homemade IR Blaster.
Some background:
I have a P4 w/ 1 Gig Ram
2x 80 Gig SATA w/ 3Ware Raid 1 (OS)
1x 25

Please check which device the lirc kernel modules create. On my Gentoo box
(Kernel 2.6.9) this is /dev/lirc/0 and thus the lircd should be started with
-d /dev/lirc/0 and not /dev/lirc.
