Has anyone tried
to connect to a Shaw cable box with firewire? I sent them an email asking if
their boxes supported firewire. The first reply indicated that the firewire
ports on their boxes were active but not supported by shaw. I asked them another
question and they replyed saying the the

Shaw says that the fireware ports are active, but I keep reading all this

I am running Gentoo and just added:
post-install ivtv /usr/bin/ivtvctl -j reg=0x6c,val=0xfa -d

Works great now...

I'm having a similar problem. I believe it is related to the ivtv fb driver.
My system will run for days without the frontend running.

Try using a DVD player application. I found that even with the right codec
the picture was squished (tall and narrow). I prefer PowerDVD. Once you
install the package you will have the codec.

Thanks to every one that offered sugestions.

It's in the Mythtv Documentation. I can't remember the name of the file but
you have to change the bind address from 127.0.0.1 (or what ever it is) to
your IP. I had the same problem with Gentoo.

I expect that the Radio Shack remotes would work the same way, since they
use the same codes.

I know that discussion regarding decrypting DVB feeds is not
allowed here. All the info you need is here please do not email me asking how to do
it. My system is not running 100% yet and I am considering getting a PVR 350 and
connecting it to my Mythtv box.
Good Luck.

For what it's worth, I picked up a couple ox used Xboxes at a local pawn
shop for $130CDN (Approx $110US). I reflashed the bios and loaded Xebian (I
believe it also has an NFS install option). They are a litthe sluggish with
only 64MB RAM but the price was right.

oo Vs GentooX Vs Xebian
I'd go with gentoo myself. AFAIR, GentooX is no longer supported by the
main gentoo distro, and since gentoo itself will now install ok on an xbox,
I think gentooX is no longer needed. Besides, Gentoo rocks.

Hi, I just picked up
a couple of used xboxes to used as frontends for Mythtv. I am now trying
determine what Linux distribution I should use. I tried Xebian because it looked
like the fastest way to setup s dedicated frontend. For some reason apt-get is
failing. I see errors like "stdin: not
