The simple answer is that the remote is not controlling the tuner. The
remote controls the computer which in turn controls the tuner. The
flexibility of Mythtv is that the tuner can reside any where you like,
backend, frontend(s), or all of the above. For most it is just a
convenience to use th
Graeme Wilford's fix works but do it like this
Edit this file: /etc/apt/sources.list
and add the next 2 lines
# temporary mythtv-suite fix
rpm http://axentra.net files/mezzanine/mythtv stable
Then run these 2 commands
apt-get update
apt-get install mythtv-suite=0.18

The best place to put this is under
/etc/profile.d/my_favorite_profile_settings.sh When done you will be
able to access the MYKERNAL variable from any logged in user. See
