I hadn't heard that that there's a switch. If subversion becomes the
primary repository, it should be relatively simple to convert the CVS
builds to subversion builds.

I've updated my live CVS ebuilds for Gentoo. They only check out one
copy of the plugins repository, and all the modules share that copy.
There's a nuvexport-svn ebuild, too which builds from the Subversion
repository.
The only change from the Gentoo
