because the capture card has to pass the audio through to the soun

I'm probably one of the very few people left with a non-PVR analog card
(a simple Hauppauge WinTV Go, based on cx8800).
Well, I can only say I never had any problems with crackling outside
MythTV, and I've used numerous players, and both OSS and ALSA...
