Might be a stupid question, but are you sure you have the proper
lircrc file, and that it is in the proper place? IRW responding is
dependent on that file. You can try to run irrecord and see if your
receiver is picking up any signal at all, regardless of the lircrc
file.

Okay, I did "ps aux | grep lircd" and got the pid.
Then I did "strace -p 12165", and this came up:
Process 12165 attached - interrupt to quit
select(5, [4], NULL, NULL, NULL
Don't know what to do from here. But I tried pressing the remote control
buttons (aimed at the receiver of course) but nothi
do an strace on the lirc daemon. if you see the events being captured
there, and not with irw, then more than likely youre using the wrong
config file for your hardware.

Hello,
irw starts but nothing happens when I push my remote's button. (I have the
Pinnacle PCTV STEREO remote & receiver)
I've installed lirc-kmdl and lirc with apt. Lircd starts. lsmod says that
lirc_serial and lirc_dev are loaded.
This is how my modprobe file looks like:
options lirc_serial irq
