Check /var/log/htpd/error_log for messages? When strange things
happen it should put something there..

Nahh, I actually tried that too but it doesn't seem to help!
It is confusing because exactly the same setup is used for mythmusic
via the web (using a symbolic link) and it works fine :|

If I am not wrong, your mythweb files should be own by own by a user
who apache has access.
In my case everything in mythweb is own by apache:apache.
